Kai vs RYM metal charts: 2002

Image
Well, here's 2002.  The last year I feel like doing this for as a) it's the last year for at least 20 where I even have 10 albums from that year, b) I peaked ahead to 2023 and holy fuck I hate hipster scum.  Let's go holy diving.... 1. Agalloch- The Mantle      You see what I mean?  Opeth for black metal betas.  More joy-less flowery hipster garbage trying to pass itself off as black metal.  I hope these douchebags and people like them send Varg Vierkerness Christmas cards every year, cos they owe their entire careers to him for his crimes.  Fuckin trash.... Should this be on a top 10: Fuck you Would this be on my top 10:  Fuck you 2. Immolation- Unholy Cult      I love Immolation but this album is such a pain in the ass to find in physical form.  Streaming things to hear them is so lame.  Yeah this album is great.  I couldn't tell you the difference between this and say, Failures ...

Kai vs. RYM metal charts 2001

I hate 2001. 2001 = shit.  It won't see things my way.  In the End that goofy fruitcake killed himself.  Once again the world is deprived of Gamma Ray in Hawaiian shirts laying waste to Cancun (which easily would have been 70% hispanics and 30% spoiled white kids) on national television.  Let's go holy diving... 1. System of a Down- Toxicity      Well, at least #1 isn't not Blackwater Park .  I was never a super fan, but if I have to listen to anything from that accursed period, it will probably be Toxicity .  Kinda sucks that the one guitar solo on here is on the weakest song on here.  On top of that, it goes on for a little too long!  Why not have a bunch of smaller guitar solos in the hits?  I also feel like "Aerials" could have been written by Nickelback or Creed and people would shit all over it. Should this be on a top 10:  Oh....sure Would this be on my top 10: No 2. Tool- Late...

Kai vs RYM metal charts: 2000

I suppose you could say 2000 was the year I discovered metal.  At the very least in the popular culture one person who released metal is really a rock & roll car with the best possible illegal upgrades (Ozzy Osbourne), and a bunch of immature dumb shits who thought growling instead of singing over rejected Pantera riffs made you cool (pretty much everyone on Ozzfest that formed a band after 1995).  Losers still bemoan that nu-metal was the last time metal was mainstream, wheras I, correctly bemoan that power metal/classic metal would have done the same thing if mono-culture was socially engineered to do so.  With one irritating exception, I don't think we'll see any of that alt-crap in the top voted of 2000.  But I can't picture the top voted being great either.  Let's go holy diving.... 1. Electric Wizard- Dopethrone      I'd be lying if I said I was down with the good, undergound shi...
